REGARDING USING THIS WEBSITE

I cannot see any photographs on the Photos page.
The Photos page uses Java Script to display the photographs.  By placing the mouse cursor over a thumbnail picture on the left of the page, a larger version will appear on the right.  If you do not have Java installed on your computer, or you have an old version of an internet browser, then you may encounter problems with the display. You could try updating your browser, which should be free.  Most up to date internet browsers have Java installed with them or, when they load a web page that includes Java Script, will give the option to download and install a free copy of Java.

I cannot see any videos on the Videos page.
This has the same answer as the Photos page question above but with one addition: the video player requires the same version of Flash used to watch videos on YouTube. Your browser should offer to download the latest free version if cannot display or play the the videos.  If it does not then it may be the case that you have an old version of an internet browser which could, if you so choose, be updated for free.

I cannot open the free PDF files on this website.
All the files are double checked before being uploaded.  They are created using the latest software and it may be that older version of Adode Reader cannot open them. Updating Adobe Reader is free and can be done by using the link given on the Links page.

How do I get a password to log in to the Password Protected Area?
That area is only for some existing long term clients.  Each client enters a different password protected area where they can view their account and how their project is progressing.  Passwords are individual to each client and are only issued if absolutely necessary.

REGARDING BOOK PURCHASES THROUGH THIS WEBSITE

Is it possible to pay for purchases by cheque or postal order rather than by credit card?
Only if you live in the United Kingdom.

I placed an order for a book through this website and have not yet received it.

When the book was dispatched you would have been sent an email that quoted how long it would take for the book to arrive. If that time has been exceeded then please email us directly using the email address we used to confirm that your order was dispatched.  Start your email program, view our email and then click the option on your email program to Reply to the sender.

Does John Helvin have more titles for sale than are listed here and on his other websites?
Yes, usually between two to three thousand used books (not including magazines and comics, etc.).  They will all eventually be listed for sale but spread across the various internet outlets we use.

If my book is lost or damaged in the mail what happens then?
Don't worry, every book mailed is insured for loss at our own expense and at no cost to the customer. Once it is established that a book is lost or can be shown to have been damaged in transit, then a full refund or replacement is available to the customer.

You give free postage and packaging to UK customers on a lot of your books.  Why not on all of them?
In the case of the paperbacks we publish, free postage and packaging to UK customers will be available on all our titles.  It is different in the case of used books due to the individual financial value of the used book and its size and weight.  Large heavy books can have postage costs that are simply too expensive to absorb as part of the asking price.

Why do you not give wholesale terms on the paperbacks you publish?
The paperbacks we publish, and are to publish, have to been chosen to meet a specific economic need regarding such titles. Books that involve any degree of  research in their preparation usually have a high retail price.  We wish to set low retail prices making the books easily affordable to students, etc. In doing this, we are unable to offer wholesale deals.

Do you give discounts to libraries or academic institutions?
Strictly speaking, in line with the details given above regarding wholesale, we do not. However, very large orders within the UK may be subject to the occasional special offer.
